Air conditioning is often sold by people from an endowment mortgage / double glazing / solar panels sales background. They are sales professionals. The air conditioning equipment they sell is ‘packaged’. Installers do not need to know how it works, just how to screw it to the wall and maybe connect some pipes together. The electrical installation part of the work may have been done by an independent contractor who, like the pipe fitter, doesn’t know, or care, how the system works.

This arrangement is how many air conditioning systems are sold. Or over- sold, poorly specified and installed. Trying to fix broken down air conditioning at the start of the next spell of hot weather, when the profits from an installation have long since been spent is a poor situation.
